SUSTRONIC Focused Session at MIKON 2026

Green, Smart and Sustainable Technologies in Integrated Electronics, RF, Microwave and Wireless Systems

Sustainable development represents one of the most pressing challenges in modern electronics and microwave engineering. Advanced systems must not only deliver high performance and reliability, but also meet growing environmental expectations, energy efficiency requirements, and circular economy principles. Addressing these challenges is the focus of the SUSTRONIC – Sustainable Electronics for Intelligent and Circular Systems project (https://sustronics.eu/), which aims to develop next-generation materials, sensors, and electronic systems designed with sustainability at their core.

This special session at MIKON 2026 will present the latest research achievements and technological innovations developed within SUSTRONIC. The project, funded under Horizon Europe with a total budget of €30 million, brings together a large international consortium of 46 partners from 11 countries. Its work spans from green semiconductor technologies and sustainable sensor platforms to real-world applications in smart cities, industrial monitoring, precision agriculture, and medical diagnostics.

The session will align with the main topics of MIKON 2026 and invites submissions covering, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Research on biodegradable, recyclable, and eco-friendly materials for microwave and RF components, substrates, and devices.
  • Development of low-power, long-lifetime sensor systems for environmental, industrial, agricultural, and healthcare applications.
  • Design and implementation of integrated circuits and systems-in-package focused on energy efficiency and material sustainability.
  • Design of sustainable, repairable, and energy-aware wireless communication systems and antennas for next-generation IoT and smart systems.
  • Sensor and system-level innovations targeting SUSTRONIC use cases such as smart agriculture, clean air and water, e-health, and smart buildings.
  • Modeling, simulation, and lifecycle-oriented design tools that support circularity and sustainability in electronics development.

We invite all contributions that support the vision of future-proof, intelligent, and environmentally responsible electronics. A special side networking event will be planned for all contributors and SUSTRONIC partners to facilitate networking and exchange of ideas.
